John Terry Impresses At Ashby 20 Miler

The Ashby 20 miler was the chosen race this weekend for 8 of our runners. This event is a favourite as a build up to the London Marathon and a field of 650 runners once again proved its popularity. The weather was good, with pleasant sunshine for the most part, although for the ever present Harrier supporters it could have been a tad warmer!!

The course is over 2 laps which take in the villages of Packington, Snarestone, Heather and Normanton le Heath. In parts it is undulating and is quite a challenge.

First home in the Harriers vest was John Terry who had a fantastic run and continues to show improvement in all distances. John took 29th place and finished the second half with a PB 10 mile time. His final time was 2:11:07 which must suggests a sub 3 hour marathon is just around the corner.

Following John was Paul Gregory who didnt have the best of races although he did manage a creditable place of 45th. Paul suffered in the latter stages and he came home in 2:13:27.

Nigel Stock had a great run and looked as though he could have carried on that extra 6 miles at the end, he came home in 126th in a time of 2.29.20 - comfortably running quicker than 7 minute miles over the last 5 miles. This time he just held off Dave Kind, who came home in 2.30.56, for 139th place.

Next home, in 257th place, was Mark Perry, who was still smiling as he crossed the line in 2.43.21 - his first time over the testing 20 mile distance. Another 20 mile debutant, Adam Clarke, was next home in a time of 3.02.41, a good training run as Adam prepares for the Austrian Ironman in July.

Our two ladies were next home, Suzy Perry also making her 20 mile bow in a time of 3.25.07 and close behind Caroline Scrimshaw completing the Hermitage contingent in a time of 3.31.08.
