The Harrier 3 Take On The London Marathon
Well if you were watching the TV on Sunday I hope you were cheering on our 3 Harriers as they battled with the other 34,292 finishers and the torrential downpours in the London marathon. There was Harrier support in the crowd as well with JT and Trev near Tower Bridge and family members elsewhere around the course.
All 3 gave great performances with Kim Sayers our only lady runner, taking off an astonishing 57 minutes from her previous best time to finish in 5 hrs 49 mins. Her half split time was an impressive 2 hr 33mins.
Not only did Kim run a great race but she also managed to raise over 3000 pounds sponsorship for the Macmillan charity in the process.
The male Harriers running were Dave Kind and Paul Gregory who both ran exceptional races.
Paul our most experienced marathoner was delighted with his run and even after losing a couple of weeks due to injury ran his 2nd fastest marathon time of 2:43:46. This gave him 265th place and also lowered the club record in the process.
Dave Kind improved his previous best of 3:28:58 by nearly 5 minutes running in with a time of 3:23:25. His half time split was 1:40:29.
I also understand that both Dave and Paul managed a further PB which took them to the Sherlock Holmes Pub on Northumberland Street for a few well earned after race beers.
